Adding locations

Locations are names of places you use to sign on to Netscape. For example, you can use one location at home called Home and another location at your office called Office. You could also sign using a laptop with a third location called Laptop.

There are two types of locations you can work with depending on the connection type: modem and Cable/DSL/LAN. The connection type you select determines your method of adding the location.

Adding modem locations

To add a location using a modem connection:

1

Open your Netscape Sign On window. Double click the Netscape icon on your Windows desktop.

2

Click the list arrow for Select Your Location, then click Add A Location... to open Step 1 of a six step process.

3

Enter a descriptive name for the new location. You will use this name to distinguish it from other locations in your list.

4

Make sure the checkbox for modems is selected for this connection. It should be selected by default. If you have more than one modem installed on your computer, select the modem you want to use from the list, then click Next to open Step 2.

5

Enter your area code, then click Next to open Step 3.

6

Select several numbers from the displayed list by clicking the checkbox next to the numbers. Try to select numbers that are closest to you. You can select several numbers so Netscape can automatically dial the next number if the first number is busy. Click Next to move to Step 4.

7

Review the list of numbers you selected for the new location. Click the checkboxes at the bottom if they apply to your location. Some areas require 10 digit dialing (area code + local code + number) for local calls, and some areas require a 1 before the area code. Click Next to move to Step 5.

8

Review four dialing options and select those that you want to apply to the new location.

Call waiting

To turn off call waiting, click I have to dial this number to turn off call waiting, then enter the proper code. All pulse phones (most common) use *70. You can also add a comma (*70,) to generate a one second delay. This can help process the call. If you use a rotary phone, enter the code 1170.

Outside line

Some offices and hotels use phone systems that require you dial a prefix number to reach an outside line, for example, 9. If this applies to your new location, click the checkbox for I have to dial this number to reach an outside line, then enter the prefix number.

Voicemail

To turn off voicemail, click the checkbox for I have voicemail on this line.

Modem speaker

To turn off your modem speaker, click the checkbox for I prefer not to hear my modem speaker.

9

Click Next to save your settings for the new location

10

Click Sign On Now! to save the new location and return to the Sign On window.

Adding Cable/DSL/LAN locations

To add a location using a Cable/DSL/LAN connection:

1

Open your Netscape Sign On window. Double click the Netscape icon on your Windows desktop.

2

Click Select Your Location, then click Add A Location to open Step 1.

3

Enter a descriptive name for the new location. You will use this name to distinguish it from other locations in your list.

4

Check the checkbox for the Cable/DSL/LAN connection type, then click Next. This closes the window and installs your new location.

If you see a message in step 4 telling you that the network connection could not be found, click OK and check your network connection, then begin the process again.
